Honouring the National Day of Mourning – April 28, 2025
Every year on April 28, Canadians observe the National Day of Mourning — a solemn occasion to remember those who have lost their lives, been injured, or become ill due to workplace incidents. It is also a time to reflect on the importance of protecting the health and safety of all workers and to renew our shared commitment to a safer future.
At Milton Hydro, Safety Above All Else is not just a core value — it’s the foundation of our culture. In our industry, where the work is highly skilled and inherently risky, safety is everyone’s responsibility. We are proud of our team’s dedication to safe work practices, continuous training, and the support they show one another every day.
Our commitment to safety means always striving for improvement — finding new ways to prevent incidents, strengthen our programs, and foster a culture where everyone looks out for each other. We truly believe that we are Better Together, and it’s this collective effort that strives to ensure that every employee returns home safely at the end of the day.
As a symbol of remembrance on behalf of the Milton Hydro Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and the Power Worker’s Union (PWU), we encourage all employees to take a moment of silence to honour the significance of this day and the recent Toronto Hydro fatality - and reflect on how we can continue to build an even safer workplace, for ourselves and for future generations.
