Recent Hydro Billing Scam

Milton Hydro is aware of a phone scam in the Milton area.

The “threatening phone call” asks customers to immediately pay their electricity bills via electronic wire transfer or a credit card. The customers are told that if they don’t make the payment, their electricity will be disconnected immediately. The caller then asks the customers to call a 1-800 number that connects them to an bogus hydro billing department.

Milton Hydro does make collection calls but it always provides customers with their account details and offers multiple payment options. Milton Hydro does not accept electronic wire transfers or credit card payments over the phone from residential customers. If Milton Hydro customers want to pay via credit card, they are asked to directly contact our third party agency, Paymentus, via phone or online, to make a payment.

Milton Hydro is reminding customers to never provide any personal information including credit card information to unknown people over the phone.

Customers who believe they may be victims of a fraud or theft should report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre 1-888-495-8501
