Major Event Reports for July 1 and July 9, 2026, Storms
Severe weather and other exceptional circumstances can occasionally result in widespread interruptions to the electricity distribution system. Events such as ice storms, floods, tornadoes, and damaging windstorms may be classified as Major Events when their impacts extend beyond what a distributor can reasonably anticipate or mitigate.
Reporting and Accountability
When an outage is designated as a Major Event, distributors must prepare and submit a report to the
Ontario Energy Board within 60 days. These reports outline the nature of the event, restoration efforts undertaken, and key response activities. To promote transparency, the same report is published publicly at the time of filing.
