May Summer Hours/Threshold Update

On May 1st, 2024, the Time-of-Use (TOU) Summer Hours and the Tiered Summer Threshold will be implemented. The electricity prices for TOU, Tiered, and Ultra-Low Overnight plans remain unchanged.

Time-of-Use (TOU)

Understanding how TOU rates function can assist in managing electricity expenses. During the summer period (May 1 – October 31), TOU price periods differ from those in the winter (November 1 – April 30). Regardless of the season, weekends and holidays offer the lowest rates throughout the day.

For TOU plan customers, summer sees electricity usage peak during the hottest afternoons when air conditioners are running full blast. On-Peak hours occur mid-day.

Did you know that under TOU rates, it's more economical to turn on your dishwasher at 9 p.m. rather than 9 a.m.? Or that you'll spend less on electricity when you use your power washer on the weekends instead of weekdays? Shifting electricity usage to cheaper times is a strategy for reducing costs.

Tiered

Tiered pricing allows for a set amount of electricity usage each month at a lower rate. Once this limit (referred to as a threshold) is surpassed, a higher rate applies. The threshold adjusts with the seasons to accommodate changing usage patterns, such as increased electric heating during the winter due to fewer daylight hours.

During the summer period (May 1 – October 31), the Tier threshold for residential customers is 600 kWh, while for small business customers, it remains at 750 kWh year-round.

Tiered pricing offers the flexibility to use electricity at any time of day at the same rate, though this rate changes if the threshold is exceeded during the month.

Ultra-Low Overnight

Are you on the new Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) plan?

There is no seasonal shift, the ULO hours remain consistent year-round.
